The British Library Turning the Pages Project (Sultan Baybars' Qur'an)

Sultan Baybars' Qur'an: Written in gold in Arabic dates from 1304 to 1306 and was produced for the Mamluk ruler of Egypt, Rukn al-Din Baybars al-Jashnagir. "Visitors are able to virtually "turn" the pages of manuscripts in an incredibly realistic way, using touch-screen technology and animation. They can zoom in on the high quality digitised images and read or listen to notes explaining the beauty and significance of each page. There are other features specific to the individual manuscripts - in the Leonardo notebook, for example, a mirror button turns the text round so visitors can try to read his famous mirror handwriting.

There are currently nine treasures on display in Turning the Pages; the Lindisfarne Gospels, the Diamond Sutra, the Sforza Hours, the Leonardo Notebook, the Golden Haggadah, the Luttrell Psalter, Blackwell's Herbal, the Sherborne Missal and Sultan Baybars' Qur'an."

A History of the Crusades (Kenneth M. Setton, Editor) (University of Wisconsin, Madison)

"The History of the Crusades, published by the University of Wisconsin Press over a twenty year period beginning in 1969, was intended to serve as a collaborative and comprehensive treatment of the topic, ranging in time from the first 100 years of the Crusades to their ultimate impact on the histories of the Near East and Europe. The work is comprised of six volumes, each of which is included here in its entirety.

It is hoped that the search features of the History of the Crusades database will be a convenient aid to scholarship and study. Both the individual volumes and the series as a whole can be browsed and searched by keyword. However, the underlying computer text used in the search process consists of unedited files created by using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software. Consequently, the search capability is useful but not absolutely reliable in locating words and terms used in the texts. Users are advised to consult the table of contents and indexes in the individual volumes in order to conduct a thorough search for specific information in the texts."
